Poettinger celebrates 25 years of seeding technology

A quarter of a century of innovation, precision and performance in modern agriculture

Poettinger, a renowned Austrian manufacturer of agricultural machinery, marks 25 years of activity in the seeding technology sector, confirming its constant commitment to innovation and precision.

The company, originally known for its grassland machinery, took its first important step towards arable agriculture in 1975 by taking over the Bayerische Pflugfabrik Landsberg (the Bavarian plough factory in Landsberg am Lech). A defining moment followed in 2001, when Pöttinger entered the seed drill market with the acquisition of the Rabe plant in Bernburg, Germany.

Since then, Poettinger has steadily expanded its product portfolio by developing modern solutions for precision seeding. The current range includes VITASEM mechanical seeders, AEROSEM pneumatic seeders and TERRASEM universal seeders, designed to provide high sowing precision, along with optimal seedbed preparation.

Continuous innovation and award-winning technologies

In 2003, Poettinger presented the TERRASEM seed drill at the Agritechnica Hannover Exhibition, setting new standards in mulch sowing. In 2009, the company launched the updated version of the VITASEM mechanical seed drill, which brought extra precision in seed dosing.

The year 2012 marked the introduction of the direct fertilization system on the TERRASEM seeder, a solution that positions nutrients exactly next to the seed, where they are needed for optimal crop development.

In 2013, the new generation of AEROSEM seed drills was awarded the “Car of the Year” award. The patented Intelligent Distribution System (IDS) ensures highly accurate seed distribution, and Precision Combi Seeding (PCS) technology integrates precision seeding into pneumatic seeders. In the same year, Poettinger also launched the compact FOX combination, expanding the flexibility of seeding solutions.

Between 2019 and 2021, the AEROSEM series benefited from numerous technological improvements. The AEROSEM F, equipped with a pressurized front hopper, offers maximum working capacity, while the AEROSEM VT completes the range with a towed, compact and soil-friendly combination.

In 2022, Poettinger introduced the AMICO front hopper, compatible with various distribution systems, for optimal integration of tilling, fertilizing and seeding.

Expansion to precision seeding

Also in 2022, Poettinger took over the company MaterMacc, taking a strategic step towards the precision seed drill market. This takeover has brought advanced technologies and integrated solutions for modern arable agriculture to Pöttinger’s portfolio.

Following the integration, the San Vito location was developed as a center of excellence for precision seed drills. The first result of this collaboration is the PURO precision seed drill, which combines MaterMacc’s long-standing experience with Pöttinger’s expertise in agricultural engineering and its high quality standards.

With the launch of PURO, Poettinger opens a new chapter in its 150-year history, continuing the mission that has been the basis of the company since the beginning: to develop machinery that makes farmers’ work easier, more efficient and more profitable.
